Air Seychelles to renew its international fleet by 2010.
Victoria, Mahé, Seychelles, March 31, 2006 - Air Seychelles has plans to replace its current fleet of B767-300 with the highly efficient and cost effective B787 Dreamliners in 2010. This was announced by the head of state, President James Michel to a gathering of the airline’s senior staff whilst inaugurating a new technical and training facility. A high class product with wider space in economy class and lie-flat seats in business class. Air Seychelles Chairman & Chief Executive, Captain David Savy has said: « Our choice of the B787-800 Dreamliner is based primarily on the operational savings it brings especially in terms of fuel efficiency and lower maintenance costs. This airplane was also designed with people in mind. This combination is a sure winner. The B787 Dreamliners will offer un-rivaled levels of comfort and in-flight amenities whereby our passengers will now experience a high class product with wider space in economy class and lie-flat seats in business class ». Serious consideration was also given to the fact that Air Seychelles is a high end destination which means that we need to retain a young and modern fleet. Our clientele are discerning and expect the best. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has had the most successful program launch in Boeing’s history with the first aircraft scheduled to enter commercial service in 2008. Boeing currently has a total of 385 orders of this new aircraft worldwide. The 787 is a family of airplanes carrying between 200 to 300 passengers and is a natural successor to the very successful B767-300. The aircraft also flies faster – the speed of the 747 and 777. This aircraft will be the most eco-friendly airplane in its class! Passengers can expect superior products as the latest technology is being incorporated to help people feel better during and after a long flight. The dreamliner will provide higher humidity levels in the cabin, a lower cabin altitude, state of the art acoustics, innovative lighting, wider seats and aisles, bigger overhead bins and larger windows greatly improving the overall flying experience. State of the art entertainment will be offered with each individual seats having their own monitor. The aircraft will be e-enabled for total connectivity. This aircraft will be the most eco-friendly airplane in its class which please us immensely as Seychelles is possibly the most eco-friendly islands of the world with some 48% of its territory declared reserves. Air Seychelles has been operating Boeing aircraft since 1986. It has operated the B707-320, B757, B737-700 and B767’s. It’s current B767 fleet average age is only 7 years. Our objective is to always have the youngest fleet operating to the Indian Ocean. The company is in negotiation with US-based International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) who will be leasing the aircraft to Air Seychelles. ILFC and Air Seychelles have been doing business together as far back as 1988. Air Seychelles will be ILFC’s launch customer for the B787. Ends.
